Bluett Peak
Elevation 8283'
Unofficially named Bluett Peak is located on the east side of central Idaho’s White Clouds Mountains. It is found northwest of Bluett Creek, and southwest of Jimmy Smith Lake. Nothing stands out about the peak itself. But it rises above the East Fork Salmon River, and offers good views of Castle Peak, as well as Mount Borah.

I parked next to the road by the East Fork Salmon River, and headed up a game trail through the sagebrush. (I'd meant to park on public property, but when I looked later, I'd accidentally parked on private property. Parking a little further east would have avoided this.)

Bluett Peak comes into view (left) as I crest a knoll. I hiked an old road for a bit, then climbed toward the saddle in the center of this photo.

Once at the saddle, I hung a left and went west along the ridge. Just a little snow on the north facing slopes along the way.

The summit of Bluett Peak offered great views of Castle Peak, and the rugged center of the White Cloud range.

Potaman Peak to the north of Bluett.

After a snack, it was time to head down. I had a good view of Mount Borah and the Lost River Range during my descent.

Dropping back into the East Fork Salmon River.

Map of my route. Just over 4 miles and 2300' elevation gain round trip, in just under 3 hours of hiking.
