Geneva Summit Peaks
A Quick Morining Hike in the Preuss Range
September 20, 2025
North Geneva Peak (7,575') - South Peak (7,461')

Geneva Summit is located in the Preuss Range of far eastern Idaho, near the Wyoming border. It’s found at the top of Montpelier Canyon, less than 15-minute drive from the town of Montpelier. There are two unnamed mountains, one on each side of the highway, that are accessible year-round, and can be hike individually, or combined into an easy 2-peak outing.

My wife and I were in the area for a getaway weekend visit to Bear Lake, and I chose Geneva Summit for a quick hike while she slept in at the Super 8. After the quick pre-dawn drive, I was soon making my way up the sagebrush slopes on the east side of the northern peak.

Once on the ridge, the north summit came into view.

After a quick stop at the north summit, I retraced my path for awhile, and had this view of the highway, and a newish utility pipeline road leading toward the south summit.

After descending back to the highway, I made my way up the utility road.

At the shoulder of the peak, I hung a right toward the summit.

Sunrise view from the south summit, then back down to the highway.

Map of my route. Around 3 miles and 1300' elevation gain round trip, in 90 minutes of hiking.
