Zollinger Points
A quick hike up two small peaks near the Pahsimeroi River
June 28, 2024
South Zollinger Point (8,288') - North Zollinger Point (8,340')

The Pahsimeroi River country is remote territory, on the backside of eastern Idaho's Lost River Range. The area is seldom visited, but those who have made the trek there will be familiar with a remote outpost located at the confluence of the East and West Forks of the Pahsimeroi River. The Zollinger Range Cabin, aka Ferd's Cabin, was reportedly activity used from the 1940's into the 1990's. What a scenic location to bed down for the night after a hard day working outside. Near the cabin, there are 2 small peaks that are hikeable if you don't mind wading the river.

Zollinger Range Cabin, aka Ferd's Cabin, near the confluence of the East and West Forks of the Pahsimeroi River. After climbing Little Regret Peak earlier, I had some time and decided to tackle these two peaks in the afternoon. I parked just south of the cabin and found a spot to wade across the river, which is the crux of the hike.

I decided to head up "South Zollinger Point" first, shown here with ominous Mount Corruption in the background.

It didn't take long to reach the south peak. From the highpoint, here's a view of the north peak.

Here's a view of Mount Corruption from what I'm nicknaming "South Zollinger Point".

Next up, the north peak. I decided to climb the ridge on the right.

Once up the ridge, I had a short ridgewalk to the summit.

From the summit of "North Zollinger Point", I was looking down on the south peak, with Mount Corruption dominating the background. Leatherman Peak on the far right.

After descending the southwest face of the north point, I had to re-wade the thigh-deep river.

Map of my route. A total of 2.5 miles and 1000' elevation gain round trip, in just under 2 hours of hiking.
