Lookout Peak
Elevation 7820'
There are several mountains in Idaho named Lookout Peak. This particular one is located in the West Mountains, near the town of Cascade. Its possible to drive within two miles of the summit. From the trailhead, the Van Wyck ATV trail takes you the first mile and a half. The views from the summit are great, unfortunately most of the surrounding area was burned in the 2022 Four Corners fire.

After attending Man Camp with a group of guys from church, Brady and I stopped off for a quick hike up Lookout Peak on the way home. Here's our first view of the peak from the ATV trail.

Lookout Peak from the northeast, with a occasional green trees along the way.

The treeless summit block appeared to have escaped the fire. Just steep enough to get the blood pumping!

Brady and I on the summit of Lookout Peak. This was just before I ate the worst gas station sandwich ever. Always risky to deviate from a good PB&J!

Our view north from the summit included Council Mountain.

And Snowbank Mountain to the south.

Here's a great view of Cascade Lake before we headed down. We ended up descending the northeast side of the peak, then back to the trail from some ATV dodging.

Map of my route. Round trip was about 4 miles and 1600' of elevation gain. The hike took just over 2 hours.
