Grand View Point
Elevation 7586'
Grand View Point is located toward the northern end of Grand Teton National Park. As expected, views of the Tetons are excellent from the summit. An unmarked dirt road leads to the trailhead, which is only about a mile hike from the highpoint. Traffic on this trail is pretty low by national park standards.
With a small window of time to work with, my wife and kids dropped me off at the trailhead and went to get some ice cream at the Jackson Lake Lodge. They would be back in an hour to pick me up. I made my way up the trail, adorned with an abundance of wildflowers.
It only took me 20 minutes to cover the mile to reach the summit, where I found three NPS rangers taking a break on their way back from doing trail maintenance at Two Ocean Lake. I continued a bit further along the summit ridge before stopping for a snack. It was a beautiful afternoon, and the weather was great.
After a short break, I retraced my steps back over the summit, and then down to the false summit, just off the trail to the south. This position offered up the best views of the hike. Even though the Tetons were partially covered with clouds, it was still very scenic.
All that was left was to hustle back to the trailhead. Round trip was just under 2 miles and 600’ of elevation gain in 50 minutes.
