Macks Peak
Elevation 4960'
Macks Peak is located in the Boise Mountains, just north of Lucky Peak Reservoir. It is unofficially named after nearby Macks Creek. The peak itself isn’t super impressive, but it makes for a nice spring hike close to home. The terrain is similar to the more popular Cervidae Peak, which is just to the west of Macks Peak.
Michael and JJ were nice enough to join me for a quick climb of Macks Peak on a nice spring afternoon. We parked just west of Macks Creek, at the Macks Park campground. From there we angled up the hillside until we reached the southeast ridge of the peak. There are shorter more direct options, but the ridge looked nice and did not disappoint.
We made a steady leisurely pace, stopping occasionally to check out the surrounding views. We also saw plenty of deer along the way. It took us about 90 minutes to reach the summit, where we stopped for an extended break to enjoy the view.
On the way back, we just retraced our path down the ridge. Round trip was 3.7 miles, 1900’ elevation gain, in just under 3 hours.
