Krall Mountain
Krall Mountain is a smallish peak located near the South Fork Boise River in southwest Idaho. It’s a nice short 5-mile hike, and only takes about an hour drive from Boise to reach the trailhead via Blacks Creek Road. Although not very tall, Krall has a nice centralized location with good views of the surrounding mountains like Danskin Peak, Grape Mountain, and Rattlesnake Mountain. Late spring is a great time to visit, while the wildflowers are blooming.
Sean and I were looking for a quick morning hike, and decided to go check out Krall Mountain. After a fairly short 60-minute drive from Boise, we pulled over near a big bend in the road and climbed up a gully through the rocks. This might be the steepest part of the climb, but was still pretty easy going since we were able to follow a cow trail up. The trails were pretty abundant, and we were able to follow one or another most of the way up the south ridge of Krall to the summit. It was a bit windy, but not too bad, and we made it to the top in just over an hour. The summit had some pretty good views, and even a register placed on top. Most of the signatures were from hunters in the fall, but also had a few local peak-bagger names we recognized. All in all, a pretty nice hike that only took about 2 hours and got us home in time for lunch.
